Samoa Ports Authority plans to lay off staff18 Sep 12 Laborstart The Samoa Ports Authority is planning to lay off employees following an assessment that revealed the authority has brought in very little income since 2009. Levaopolo Talatonu, who is the shadow Minister for the Authority, told the Samoa Observer the move for redundancy is a poor decision. Levaopolo says redundancy should be the last option they consider. He says in the last Parliamentary he urged the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, and the government to stop wasting money on the Satitoa Wharf and instead spend money on useful projects. Levaopolo believes that if these monies were put to good use, Port workers would not be facing redundancies. Attempts by the Samoa Observer to get a comment from the acting Chief Executive Officer of Port Authority were unsuccessful. |
