Licenced practical nurses, health care aides and support employees at a second Edmonton seniors’ home are expected to hit the picket lines at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Notice was served Friday from Alberta Union of Provincial Employee members at the Revera Riverbend Retirement Residence, located at 103 Rabbit Hill Court.

According to AUPE president Guy Smith, pay is 14 per cent less than the industry standard for nurses, while wages for other workers are also below standard.

Contract negotiations have been underway since January.

Workers at the Hardisty Care Centre, citing similar issues – wages and benefits – have been on strike for two weeks now.

Employer contingency plans are in place.
