Doctors to hold nationwide strike on Monday09 May 11 Laborstart The Doctors Syndicate announced a nationwide strike in all hospitals on Monday, despite requests by some doctors to postpone the strike in light of casualties from the sectarian clashes in Imbaba on Saturday. The committee organizing the strike decided to refer syndicate President Hamdi al-Sayyed to a disciplinary council for opposing the strike. The committee also said that ten political parties would join the strike, in addition to the 25 January Revolutionary Youth Coalition and the 6th of April Movement. The strikers demanded the allocation of 15 percent of the state budget to the health ministry in order to improve salaries and services. “Emergency and acute cases units would be exempted from the strike,” said strike coordinator Dr. Rashwan Shaaban. |
