Germany to be hit by train strikes22 Feb 11 Laborstart BERLIN (AP) — A German train drivers' union says it will hold a warning strike across the country following a dispute over pay and working conditions. GDL union called on train drivers to stop working for two hours during the peak time of morning commutes Tuesday. It said on Monday that local, regional and long-distance trains will be affected. It was unclear how many train drivers would participate, but the early morning disruption was likely to cause major delays throughout the day. The union has asked for the introduction of a single collective bargaining agreement for the country's 26,000 train drivers across public and private railway companies to guarantee equal pay and work conditions. It has also asked a pay rise of 5 percent from Germany's biggest railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, which is offering 1.9 percent. |
