The President of the AFE, Spanish Footballers Association, Luis Rubiales, has said that he thinks they have the law on their side and that taking the matter to the National Court is now the only way out. He said the problem was one of the collective round and they were a union.

‘We have failed to reach an agreement, and see no possibility of doing so’, he said before contacting the President of the Spanish Football League, José Luis Astiazarán, to inform him of the AFE decision.

Rubiales announced that the footballers will go on strike on Sunday 2 and will ask the court to rule that the five games programmed on the day be suspended. He lamented that the League had ignored numerous communications sent since last May regarding the dates set for games to be played.

He also noted that there were players in Albacete, Mallorca, and Xerez who had not been given the guarantees of payment promised, and it seemed that Cádiz was in the same boat.

The hearing in the National Court has been set for Wednesday at 10am.
