Buenos Aires province bus drivers lift strike06 Oct 10 Laborstart The Transport Workers' Union (UTA) decided to lift the BA province bus lines strike that had all Greater Buenos Aires bus services suspended for four hours after the murder of bus driver Jorge Alberto Núñez, 53, in the southern Greater Buenos Aires district of Lanús. Nuñez was murdered today around 5am when he was heading to work. The victim was just a block away from the 524 bus line company's terminal when according to Lanús Police Department Chief Guillermo Britos, the bus driver was approached by an armed person who shot him from the back. The bus driver died instantly. Police authorities are not clear on whether the shooter was a mugger or someone who had some other reasons to commit the crime as far as no personal belongings were missing from the victim. Authorities are going deeper on Nuñez's personal life as they evaluate the possibility of being in front of what is known as a passionate crime. Once noticed, Nuñez's workmates called for an urgent meeting with UTA's delegates in which the four hour strike, from 10am to 1pm, was decided. Miguel Poveda, member of the UTA's board of directors, told reporters that the measure will affect all Greater Buenos Aires bus lines. |
