Lawmaker Collen Gwiyo of Parliament’s Committee on Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare said worker rights were not only being violated by the government but also by businesses

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions said Monday that an International Labor Organization report urging the Harare government to stop violations of worker rights has vindicated the union, which some officials had accused of smearing public officials.

VOA Studio 7 correspondent Thomas Chiripasi reported on a press conference held by the ZCTU, the country's main labor confederation.

Lawmaker Collen Gwiyo of Parliament’s Committee on Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare said worker rights were not only being violated by the government but also by businesses.

Gwiyo pointed to reported violations in mines and the underpayment of workers in general.

He told VOA Studio 7 reporter Patience Rusere that he hopes the government will take action in response to the International Labor Organization report.
