Carrefour Belgium workers to strike on Saturday

BRUSSELS, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Workers at all of supermarket chain Carrefour's (CARR.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) Belgian stores will strike on Saturday, protesting against job cuts and shop closures the French retail group announced this week.

"We want to send a clear signal to management and show that workers reject this plan," a union official told Reuters.

The strike will affect all 56 of Carrefour's Belgian hypermarkets and its 62 fully integrated supermarkets.

Carrefour plans to cut 1,672 jobs in Belgium and close 21 stores in the country by the end of June in an effort to fix its operations there, which it called "structurally loss-making".
