DAEJEON, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- Thousands of unionized rail workers went on a partial strike Tuesday to protest what they claimed was their company's refusal to negotiate wage hikes.

Nearly half of about 5,000 locomotive drivers at the union of Korea Railroad, South Korea's railway business monopoly, launched the 24-hour walkout at midnight, potentially inconveniencing commuters nationwide.
