Mexican steel workers strike at ArcelorMittalReporting by Noel Randewich; editing by Todd Eastham 10 Aug 09 Laborstart MEXICO CITY, Aug 8 (Reuters) - About 3,500 unionized workers went on strike in Mexico on Saturday at companies owned by ArcelorMittal (ISPA.AS), the world's largest steelmaker. The strike by workers in the Pacific coast city of Lazaro Cardenas is mainly over wage increases, a representative of Mexico's miners and steel workers told Reuters. "The union will continue to negotiate with the company to normalize the situation as soon as possible," said a statement sent by the union. Officials at ArcelorMittal's offices in Lazaro Cardenas could not be immediately reached for comment. |
