Employees of Thai Airports Ground Services Co Ltd (TAGS) yesterday urged House Committee for Labour to assist some 1,000 workers are facing layoff without compensations.

A group of 10 worker representatives submitted their appeal to the committee's chairman MP Sumet Ritthakanee 10.30am.

They said the firm, whose employees served in the Suvarnabhumi Airport's warehouse, VIP lounges and luggage trolley service for Thai Airways International, terminated the workers' employment on ground that its contract with Thai Airways International had ended since December 1.

The firm didn't pay condensations and didn't return their uniform deposit at Bt5,000Bt10,000, hence the workers complained to agencies including the Samut Prakan's Labour Court at which 96 workers sued the company.

Fearing that the court procedure would take time and more workers would suffer, they asked for the Parliament's help.

Sumet took up the complaint and said he would ask all sides to explain what happened in order to provide the affected appropriate assistance.
