Labour Permanent Secretary Somchai Chumrat, as chairman of the Social Security Office, said on Friday that the SSO board would discuss the proposed cut in corporate and workers' contributions to the Social Security Fund, as a measure to help employers.
He said that the office also needs opinions from employers and government officials, as pros and cons must be thoroughly considered. He noted that if the cut in contributions is possible if it would help sustain employment or minimise layoff.
The proposal was raised as a means to help reduce the operating cost of employers, so that they are financially capable of maintaining workforce.
Chalee Loysoong, secretary-general of the electronics and electrical appliance labour federation, said the cut should help employers and employees to some extent, but only in the short term.
He said details are necessary before he could comment on how this would affect the fund's members in the future.
